Umag is a city and port on the coast of Istria, and is also the seat of the local government of the same name - the city, while according to the census it has 12.699 inhabitants (2021). It is the economic and cultural center of the coastal part of the northwestern Istrian County. Tourism, fi shing, industry, and trade are among the factors responsible for the development of the economy in the second half of the 20th century. In the northern part of the Umag harbor, in front of the Adriatic Hotel, the largest, according to the conditions, ACI marina in Istria is located. It has 475 berths for yachts of various lengths and 40 dry berths on the coast. The surroundings of the city are fertile and suitable for extensive agricultural production with a causal limitation on further overdevelopment of the coastal area. Of the many traditional Umag events, the most important is the ATP tennis tournament Croatia Open, for which Umag is recognized as an oasis of sports tourism.
