Contemporary trends in tourism as a development potential of the region of Southern and Eastern Serbia: The example of Jablanica district

Predmet istraživanja u ovom radu je sagledavanje savremenih tendencija u turizmu, sa posebnim fokusom na ruralni turizam, kao razvojnog potencijala Regiona Južne i Istočne Srbije, kao i analiza turističkih kretanja na ovom području. Metodološku osnovu rada čine zvanični podaci Republičkog zavoda sa statistiku Srbije o ostvarenim rezultatima turističkog sektora, kao i pokazatelji Indeksa razvoja putovanja i turizma Svetskog ekonomskog foruma za 2024. godinu. Cilj rada je da, sagledavanjem postojećeg stanja, identifikacijom podsticajnih i ograničavajućih faktora razvoja turizma i praćenjem turističkog prometa, definiše aktivnosti koje treba da omoguće brži razvoj turizma, posebno ruralnog turizma, podizanje nivoa konkurentnosti destinacija, povećanje turističkog prometa i upravljanje turizmom na osnovama održivog razvoja u Regionu Južne i Istočne Srbije, sa posebnim fokusom na područje jugoistočne Srbije i Jablanički okrug. Izvedeni zaključci su posebno važni za definisanje mera ruralne politike i politike regionalnog razvoja u Republici Srbiji.
Abstract
The subject of the research in this paper is an overview of modern trends in tourism, with a special focus on rural tourism, as a development potential of the Region of Southern and Eastern Serbia, as well as an analysis of tourist trends in this area. The methodological basis of the work is the official data of the Republic Institute of Statistics of Serbia on the achieved results of the tourism sector, as well as the indicators of the Travel and Tourism Development Index of the World Economic Forum for the year 2024. The goal of the work is to, by looking at the current situation, identifying the stimulating and limiting factors of tourism development and monitoring tourist traffic, define activities that should enable faster development of tourism, especially rural tourism, raising the level of competitiveness of destinations, increasing tourist traffic and managing tourism on the basis of sustainable development in the Region of South and East Serbia, with a special focus on the area of Southeastern Serbia and the Jablanički district. The conclusions drawn are particularly important for defining measures of rural policy and regional development policy in the Republic of Serbia.
