In this paper, the author deals with the possibility of building and adapting old and abandoned log cabins, vayat and daščar throughout Serbia as a significant potential for attracting tourists. The emphasis in the work is on the construction of new tourist settlements and the renovation of old houses made of wooden materials whose owners, for many reasons, allowed them to fall into disrepair. In most cases, these houses have significant architectural and artistic value. These values are what cause special attention among domestic, and especially among foreign tourists. The author looks at the geographical position and localities of the places where these houses were built, as well as the different styles of construction, considering the historical circumstances in which they were developed. It also advocates for the preservation of cultural heritage through the display of old houses in order to practice many types of tourism such as eco-tourism, rural tourism, adventure tourism, cultural-historical tourism, anthropogenic tourism, sports-recreational tourism and the like. The survey research presented in the paper was conducted by examining adults from Serbia. Their views on the concepts of building new wooden houses and preserving old barns and homesteads, and therefore a better tourist offer, were analyzed.
