Abstract
Inadequate nutrition in sheep can lead to irregular cycles, fragile offspring, toxicosis during pregnancy or reduced number of lambs. In rams, the consequences of an unbalanced diet are reduced sperm quantity and quality. "Flashing" in sheep nutrition is a nutritional measure that temporarily improves the nutrition of sheep immediately before mating, in order to improve reproductive performance, with the ultimate goal of increasing fertility and the number of lambs per ewe. The recommendation for a specific type of nutrition refers to a time period of 2-3 weeks before the start of mating, with the advice to extend the nutritional treatment for a certain period of time after mating. The most widespread understanding of "flashing" nutrition in the professional community is an increase in the energy intake of feed. However, if we take into account the maximum conditioning and interaction of different nutrients during the digestion and utilization of food in the digestive tract of sheep, it is clear that this concept implies a highly sophisticated correction of meals in order to optimize the reproductive capacities of the herd, with reference to different nutritional classes such as: water, energy, proteins, vitamins and minerals.
