Abstract
With the aim of drawing a parallel between aspirations and standards in the world and in our country, the authors collected relevant data from the literature available to us and presented them in the paper, using the historical and descriptive method. The paper presents the health (biological), social (sociological), aesthetic, economic and political values of engaging in sports and recreational activities. A table with a number of benefits of sports and recreational activities is presented (WHO, 2003). The World Health Organization adopted a strategy, with the main emphasis on the promotion of physical activity, proper nutrition and health promotion. In doing so, some of the defined goals within the global strategy were (WHO, 2004:5): increasing the level of physical activity among adults by 15% - 20%; improving the education of children and adolescents in terms of physical culture by 2% by 2020; increase in walking and cycling (in adults 10%-20%, and in adolescents 40%-60%); using a specially designed questionnaire on physical activity monitoring - The Global Physical Activity Questionnaire. Considering the importance of sports and recreational activities for the overall health of people, it can be said that the results of the research will make a significant contribution to the potential educational impact on mass and greater engagement in sports and recreational activities for all age categories.
