Održiva ruralna ekonomija zlatiborske oblasti
Sustainable rural economy of the Zlatibor region
Abstract
The paper presents the possibilities of reviving villages and the rural economy in Serbia in accordance with the concept of sustainable development. A stable ecological, economic and social environment is an important condition for the development of rural areas because it enables the establishment of a base that can prospectively enable employment from a local point of view and investments aimed at environmental protection. In modern times, the natural and living environment of rural areas are significantly threatened by the process of urbanization and its accompanying effects, which has been particularly reflected in the changes in the functional and socio-economic status of villages. The classification of urban and rural settlements, based on relevant indicators, creates a solid information base for all actors in the planning process, especially planners and decision-makers in the future conceptions of the development of various territories, i.e. strategies and planning documents, from local communities to entire national territories. Attention is devoted to the application of the mechanism of small development nuclei as a potential base for the population to remain in the countryside, production of healthy food, energy from alternative sources, environmentally acceptable waste treatment technologies, etc.
