Muzikalni slonovi - kako smo došli do toga?
Musical elephants: How did we come to this?
Abstract
In this essay, I examined the position of Zoomusicology in the light of Anthropocene epoch theory, which assumes a new age of our planet shaped by the humans. Having in mind these question, I tried giving possible answers by considering the way Thai elephants relate to music. The goal of this paper was to look into the phenomenon of musical elephants in Thailand, bearing in mind the theoretical frame I posed. With the introduction of theoretical platforms that look towards Anthropocene, what I had in mind is a sort of joining zoomusicology to those disciplines that could be considered as symptomatic for the new age of ecological awareness. The results of examining the music of elephants have multiple indications, pointing out the significance of studying the new ways of communication, means of connections, and coexistence between humans and animals, as well as the gradual formation of the musical identity of the land's largest mammal.
