Abstract
Spatial planning is a strategic and systematic process that involves organizing, arranging, protecting and activating space in a certain area, region or territory, that is, to create conditions for optimizing the use of land, resources and improving the quality of life of residents. Through this research paper, relying on empirical research, current legislation and analysis of existing planning documentation, the authors will present the state of spatial planning in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The subject of this paper is to point out the problem of the non-existence of an unified system of spatial planning in the country, which consists of entities, cantons and districts and which does not have a central national body that would have the role of coordination and integration of strategic spatial development on the territory of the state. In view of the above, the aim of the paper is to draw attention to, not only the comparative analysis of the spatial planning process itself, but also to indicate the possible (expected, necessary or unnecessary) connection of the spatial planning system (entity, canton, district) through creation of spatial planning documents.
