Abstract
Wanting to re-examine the thesis that musicians differ from non-musicians on a number of psychological characteristics, so much that we could in fact postulate on "personality of musicians" or "musician's psychological profile", we presented an overview of studies that compared music students with students from other universities. In the presented studies authors examined whether musicians and non-musicians significantly differ in relation to the following characteristics: personality traits (operationalized through HEXACO model), attachment (measured by the Experience in close relationships questionnaire); early maladaptive schemas (operationalized by Young schema questionnaire, short form), maladaptive coping styles (measured by the Young schema inventory), anxiety symptoms (measured by Spielberger's State Trait Anxiety Inventory) and symptoms of depression operationalized by Beck's Depression Inventory. Using multivariate analysis of variance, authors compared different samples of music students and non-musicians proving that music students differ from non-musicians in relation to a number of psychological characteristics.
